SOBRE EL TALLER
In 1775 Joᾶo Rocha, a rich merchant who made fortune in Brasil, founded Miragaia with his nephew Joᾶo Bento da Rocha. It was located in la rua da Esperança of the Miragaia neighbourhood on the right bank of the river.
An authentic ceramic dynasty came out of this with tax exemptions in Portugal and overseas businesses. They introduced technological advances like the molds and they would even control their competitor’s factories.
SOBRE LA FÁBRICA
In 1815 it was the most successful factory overseen by Francisco Rocha Soares.
Exported English stoneware became fashionable both in Portugal and throughout the empire, creating a great crisis which was overcome in a few years thanks to the introduction of molds and patterns inspired by English models. This revival made them lead the market again, and they opened a general earthenware store in Porto comprising several factories.
Francisco Rocha Soares´ political implication would ruin him in 1852, and the factory came out for public auction in 1857.
