SOBRE EL TALLER
The Massarelos factory was founded by Manuel Duarte Silva and started its production in 1764. During its first period it focused on faience, dishes and soup bowls in blue and white under the influence of the French town of Rouen.
Due to its proximity and the fact that it was a main factory in the city, it has been chosen to give its name to Massarelos House.
SOBRE LA FÁBRICA
Towards the end of the VXIII century and the beginning of the XIX century other colours were incorporated to the production with French baroque patterns.
From the mid- nineteenth century until its fire 1920, the factory became inspired in English motifs and produced the characteristic relief tiles in two contrasted colours. These have strongly formed the character of the buildings of the city of Porto.
