Museu da Misericórdia do Porto is located right in the heart of Porto’s historic centre, in Rua das Flores, in the building that served as headquarters for this charitable institution from the mid-16th century to 2013. Over the centuries, the building underwent a number of renovation projects, the last of which was to adapt it for use as a museum. The purpose of the museum is to tell the story of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Porto and the purposes of this institution.
At the same time, it displays its art collections and makes available a set of resources that relate the memory and identity of the organisation, projecting it into the future. A visit to the museum also provides an opportunity to learn more about the past and the present of this area of the city.

The bridges over the Douro River that sew both banks of the city, linking Gaia and Porto, constitute one of the landmarks of the city’s urban landscape. Due to the engineering study of Gustave Eifell, the bridges of Dona Maria and Dom Luis, in cast iron, are unique works of the nineteenth century. The last bridge before the mouth, the Ponte da Arrabida, due to the engineering study of Edgar Cardoso, is a beautiful representative of the architecture of the 1960s.
